The Olivier Theatre, sitting delightfully at the heart of London, is one of the largest public stages in the United Kingdom. Named after the celebrated British actor, Laurence Olivier, this grand venue is housed within the iconic National Theatre complex on the South Bank of the Thames. The theatre promises a unique experience with its open stage and fan-shaped auditorium, inspired by the ancient Greek theatre at Epidaurus. With an impressive seating capacity of about 1,150 spectators, it regularly hosts a diverse range of productions, from timeless classics to innovative contemporary performances.
**How to Get There**
The Olivier Theatre is highly accessible. It is located at South Bank, London SE1 9PX. If you're using public transit, getting off at the Waterloo Station is the best option. It's just a 5-minute walk from there to the theatre. Alternatively, Blackfriars and Westminster stations are located within walking distance too. For those considering driving, parking facilities can be found at the nearby Upper Ground Car Park. The theatre also provides excellent facilities for bicyclists, with several bicycle parking bays available around the building. Respecting the environment while attending the theatre is encouraged.

Olivier Theatre - TodayTix

The Olivier Theatre takes its name from the first artistic director of the [National Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/national-theatre), Laurence Olivier. The auditorium was designed to resemble the theatre at Epidaurus in Greece, with the seating arranged in a fan-like fashion around a circular stage.

The Olivier Theatre is the largest of the three auditoriums at the National Theatre, completed by the [Lyttelton Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/lyttelton-theatre-national) and the [Dorfman Theatre](https://www.londontheatre.co.uk/theatres/dorfman-theatre-national).

The stage itself is famous for its drum-revolve, effectively enabling the stage to split into two allowing scenic changes to take place underneath the stage and then be rotated into place within seconds.
